SENIOR STAFF ACCOUNTANT
With over 700 clients and two locations we are a small but mighty CPA firm helping people take control of their money so they can live better. We do this by offering advisory, tax, accounting and coaching to our clients, developing lasting relationships through thick and thin.
This is a full time position that reports directly to the partners of the firm. For this role, you’ll be based in our Northampton, Mass location, with minimal potential travel to clients in Hampshire, Hampden or Franklin counties. During tax season it’s possible to work a day a week out of our Greenfield location. Normal office hours are Monday-Friday 8:30-5:00, this position has potential for flexible hours. Overtime during tax season is required at a minimum of 55 hours to be done at you’re choosing. Working hard during busy seasons has perks, like sweet Friday’s off all summer!
The mission of the Senior Accountant is to work side by side with the partners providing services in the tax and accounting departments. Communication is super important in this role as you’ll be connecting with clients and keeping partners up to speed and you want to illicit trust and confidence in your willingness to serve and ability to handle responsibility.
The Senior Accountant will be a key asset to the firm by allowing the partners to take on new exciting work and enhance or abilities to super serve our clients and offer new services.
There is plenty of variety and room for growth in this position as tasks assigned can vary from week to week based on the team’s needs and the needs of the business. The most important responsibility of the Senior Accountant is to ensure that projects are completed with a high level of efficiency, confidentiality, accuracy, flexibility, and positivity in order to support the initiatives of the team and our clients. If you can do that, there’s no limit what you can do here!
• Prepare individual income tax returns
• Prepare business entity workpapers and income tax returns
• Prepare nonprofit workpapers and income tax returns
• Prepare compilation and review workpapers and financial statements
• Assist clients in developing or improving accounting procedures (usually with Quickbooks)
• Help train our bookkeepers and review some of their work
• File sales tax returns
• Assist with tax planning
• Manage client relationships so you become the go-to
• Learn and grow your tax & accounting knowledge in an ever changing environment
Knowledge: The Senior Accountant will have a high attention to detail and accuracy, using their existing public accounting experience to provide informed and responsive support to the team and clients.
Quality Communication: The Senior Accountant must be an excellent communicator, in both written and oral form. This includes proficiency in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. As well as the ability to take complex issues and explain them in easy to understand language. You must also be able to track communication (and be very responsive) across multiple channels without losing any details. Those channels could include in-person meetings, virtual video calls, phone calls and/or emails.
High Level of Discretion: Since our Senior Accountant will regularly work with confidential information, discretion and sensitivity is a must. Team Player: In addition to working directly with the team, the Senior Accountant will also work with our clients. They’ll need to be able to collaborate and communicate well with everyone, maintaining a can-do spirit and not complaining, making excuses or gossiping.

Affinity for Technology: Our Senior Accountant will be technologically savvy and will not be intimidated by learning new technology. We have the best accounting software money can buy in a fully virtual setup and seek at all times to enhance our technology. Proficiency in the following tech platforms is ideal: Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Quickbooks, Thomson Reuters accounting and tax programs (UltraTax, WorkpaperCS, PracticeCS, FixedAssetCS and FileCabinet).
Education: Accounting degree required
Experience: current 4-6 years strong public accounting experience, must have tax
